A trip to Labrador Nature Reserve Park

14/06/2012

After much consideration, we feel that Labrador Nature Reserve is quite an interesting place and most of us have not visited this place. Hence, it draws us towards it.

Welcomeeeeee!
So we shall start our journey now! :o)
We started off by relaxing ourselves after walking in from Labrador Mrt station. The sun was scorching and the heat was unbearable, but we made it there! The scenery and sea breeze was worth all the sweat and energy we've used. Our energy was not used in vain.

We continued to walk downwards, check out the map of the whole park and allow ourselves to be more familiar with the park so that we wouldn't get lost in the midst of having fun and collecting information for our NE project.

The high vantage point from the cliff at Labardor Nature Reserve led the British to identify it as a defence site to protect the entrance to the harbours of Singapore.

Red Beacon
The red beacon served as a navigational guide in maritime history and marks the shortest distance between Sentosa and the mainland of Singapore.

Dragon's Teeth

Known as Batu Berlayar (sailing rock) by the local Malays , Lot's wife by the British sailors
and Long Ya Men (Dragon's Teeth) by the Chinese.
It was said, that it looks like a dragon teeth during the 14th century by an ancient mariner and trader named "Wang Da Yuan" that has sailed through this "dragon teeth"

Although we took photos of storyboards in the Gazetted Nature Reserved, but most of
the constructions were no longer available.

The "twin fortresses" of Pasir Panjang and Siloso on Pulau Blakang Mati ( Sentosa Island).
The 1892 store room.
The fourth gun position constructed in 1886.

6 Inch Quick Firing Cannon
Isn't it cool?
Yay, passing of missiles !
In the past, they kept their missiles near the gun barrel, so that they're able to pass the missiles fast and efficiently.

Scouting.
Gun emplacement IV. An underground chambers for storage of ammunition
lay below this emplacement.

Ammunition are shells containing gun powder.

We have come to realise that places like Labrador Nature Reserve should be properly preserved as it contains a lot of Singapore's history. We should do our part by not littering on the ground when visiting the park as this might cause small animals to mistake it as food and eating it, causing death. We should also not feed the monkeys as they might become aggressive towards human and this destroys their natural habitat. We believe that if each and everyone of us do our part in conserving the nature reserves, we'll get to enjoy these beautiful places in many years to come.

Sooo, our journey ended here! Overall, we felt that it was a great experience to walk about the Labrador Nature Reserve Park. It not only allow us to relax ourseleve, it also allow us to have time to bond together as well as bring us to a slower pace as compared to school life. Thank you for your kind attention :)
